Accelerator Mass Spectrometry at Vera
نویسنده
چکیده
The Vienna Environmental Research Accelerator (VERA) is a dedicated facility for accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS), operated at the University of Vienna since 1996. The principle of AMS with VERA and the advantage of measuring long-lived radioisotopes by atom counting (AMS) rather than decay counting (ß decay) is described. A brief overview on AMS applications is also presented.

Precise measurement of the neutron capture reaction 54Fe(n,γ)55Fe via AMS
The measurement of cross sections relevant to nuclear astrophysics has become one main research topic at the VERA (Vienna Environmental Research Accelerator) facility. The technique applied, accelerator mass spectrometry (AMS), offers excellent sensitivity for the detection of long-lived radionuclides through ultra-low isotope ratio measurements. We discuss the potential and preliminary results...
متن کاملDesign, Construction and Calibration of a Laser Ionization Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometer
A time-of-flight mass spectrometer (TOF-MS) developed in our laboratory at Isfahan University of Technology is described here. The TOF-MS instrument uses laser as the ionization source which provides an opportunity to investigate the ions formed in laser ablation or desorption. The TOF-MS has an ionization chamber containing an accelerator and an ion lens to focus the ions into a one meter line...
متن کاملA gas-accepting ion source for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry: Progress and Applications
The National Ocean Sciences Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (NOSAMS) facility at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution has developed an Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) system designed specifically for the analysis of C in a continuously flowing stream of carrier gas. A key part of the system is a gas-accepting microwave ion source. Recently, substantial progress has been made in the develo...
متن کاملAccelerator Mass Spectrometry as a Bioanalytical Tool
This paper presents data that supports Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) as a valid bioanalytical tool for tracing long lived radioisotopes in uses as molecular labels or elemental tracers.
متن کاملTechnetium Measurements by Accelerator Mass Spectrometry at LLNL
Technetium-99 is a long-lived, high-abundance fission product which has been widely distributed in the environment through atmospheric testing, the nuclear fuel cycle, and nuclear medicine. It has a high potential for migration in the environment as the pertechnetate anion. At the Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry, methods are being developed for the detection of this radionuclide by acc...
